This is Ptherapy!

Meet Pterodacytl! I am excited to begin incorporating canine-assisted therapy into my practice. You may occasionally see Ptery (see video below to meet him), my friendly Cavapoo, in the playroom as he works alongside me and progresses toward formal therapy dog certification.

Ptery at the Office
Canine-assisted therapy can provide children and teens with a unique opportunity to learn and practice important skills in a comfortable and engaging way. Interacting with a therapy dog can help build confidence, strengthen social skills, encourage communication, and support emotional awareness. For many children, spending time with a calm and caring dog can also make therapy feel more approachable and enjoyable.
Dogs can be wonderful partners in learning self-regulation skills. Petting, brushing, playing with, or simply sitting alongside a dog can help children slow down, feel grounded, and practice calming strategies when emotions feel big. Therapy dogs can also help foster empathy, responsibility, problem-solving, and connection.
While Ptery was not originally brought home to become a therapy dog, his gentle nature, love of people, and eagerness to connect have made him a wonderful candidate for this work. Over time, we will be working toward formal certification and continuing to build his skills so he can safely and effectively support clients in the therapy space.
Participation with Ptery is optional and I encourage you to reach out to me directly if you have any questions or concerns. I look forward to sharing more of his journey and the many ways canine-assisted therapy can support growth, learning, and emotional well-being.
