There’s something really special about opening a new box of toys—not just for the excitement, but for the possibilities inside.

As I prepare to open my new space, I Hart Therapy, I’ve been carefully selecting each item that will live in the playroom. Every toy, figure, and material is chosen with intention—to support children in expressing themselves, understanding their emotions, and exploring who they are in a safe and meaningful way.

Today, I wanted to invite you into that process.

Unboxing: Unicorns, Fairies, and Imagination in Therapy

Why These Toys Matter

To an adult, a unicorn might just be a toy. To a child, it can be bravery, magic, loneliness, power, or hope.

In therapy, children communicate through symbols, stories, and imagination. The toys in the room become their language.

The unicorns and fairy figures in this video were chosen to support:

  • Emotional Identification

Children may project feelings onto characters. A “sad unicorn” or a “scared fairy” can help a child name emotions that feel too big or confusing to say out loud.

  • Emotional Regulation

Through storytelling and play, children can safely explore overwhelming experiences and practice calming, problem-solving, and coping skills.

  • Exploration of Self & Identity

Magical figures allow children to explore different roles, strengths, and parts of themselves in a safe, imaginative way.

  • Building Safety and Connection

When a child feels understood in their play, it builds trust—and that’s where real therapeutic work begins.

Curated with Intention

Every item you’ll find in my playroom has been chosen with care. I’ve spent time considering:

  • How a toy might support emotional expression

  • Whether it invites creativity and open-ended play

  • How it might help a child feel safe, seen, and empowered

This isn’t just a room filled with toys—it’s a space designed to support growth, healing, and connection.

A New Beginning

Opening Inka Hart Therapy has been a deeply meaningful process. Creating this space has been about more than just setting up a room—it’s about building an environment where children, teens, and families can come exactly as they are.

I’m so excited to begin this journey and to share little glimpses along the way.

Thank you for being here and for taking a look inside the playroom with me.
